As per previous few posts trying out a few web hosting with Amazon, Google, Azure and x10hosting, I’m trying out AlibabaCloud, https://www.alibabacloud.com/. AlibabaCloud or Aliyun is currently giving out USD 300 credit for 60 days for new users. I manage to get the account setup in 30 minutes time including verified my credit card. Took another 15 minutes to setup a wordpress powered website, http://www.linyusheng.ml.
For Aliyun, there is an option to setup a domain and website using it;s domain & website feature. However, the feature is not included in the USD 300 credit, thus you need to pay a considerable amount of fee each month. I decided to use the EC, elastic compute, which is in the USD 300 credit, to setup the a Mandarin version website.
The applications and IoTs software offered by Aliyun’s vendors are way far behind the other four. Even the Linux OS variants are much less, there is a lot of room for improvement. The installation process is quite smooth but you need some level of technical skill to complete it, this is the same with Google. Aliyun can improve this by having more ‘one-click’ installation by vendors in which Amazon AWS & MS Azure are quite success in this area.
For Aliyun promotion is for 60 days, which unlike the rest four offer the promotion for 12 months and beyond, it is most likely not a good choice for start-up. In term of low cost and or even zero cost, Google Cloud, Amazon AWS and x10hosting are offering a better choice. For a variety of IoTs and ‘one-click’ installations, MS Azure, Amazon AWS and x10hosting are faring much much better for start-up.
The only things that make sense for me to use Aliyun is that it has servers in China and I believe they build on infrastructure that more suitable for double byte. Thus If I wanted to host a Mandarin website that follow Chinese regulation to have inside the country and have international normality then Aliyun will provide the values.
